KONTAN.CO.ID – TOKYO. Quick Response Code or QR Code in recent years has become more familiar in the community. Thanks to the various QR Code functions, this digital technology has recently received an international award.
QR codes were invented in Japan in the 1990s by Denso Wave Inc., a subsidiary of auto parts maker Denso Corp. Earlier this month Denso received the IEEE Milestone award based in the US for the technology and function of the QR Code which is considered to have a real impact on the development of the world.
In general, the IEEE Milestone Award is an award given by the US Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, to electronic achievements around the world. QR Code won this award because of its great impact on the development of digital technology.

Kyodo reported, the IEEE Milestone Award which has been held since 1997 has recognized a total of 207 inventions by the end of 2019. Meanwhile, the QR Code is Denso’s first invention to win this award.
QR Code has the ability to store and carry 200 times more information than a barcode (barcode). This coding system was first developed in 1994 to maximize inventory management in Japanese companies.
In contrast to barcodes, QR codes can be translated from various angles and are relatively easy to recognize even if surrounded by pictures or words.
Data stored in the QR Code is also easier to restore if any part of the code is lost or damaged. This more efficient QR Code function makes it the top choice for recognition systems in various fields.
