5 Benefits of Avocado Leaves for Health

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Fruit avocado has long been a favorite of many people. However, the benefits of avocado leaves cannot be ignored.

If the avocado fruit can be processed as juice, sliced, chopped, or a mixture of various ices and dietary foods, then the leaves can be processed as tea.

What are the benefits of avocado leaves?

Citing various sources, avocado leaves contain antioxidants, polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenes, and serotonin. Avocado leaf tea is said to support kidney health as well as heart health (allegedly three times as much as green tea), help regulate blood pressure and blood sugar, and reduce the incidence of seizures.

“Avocados are a very rich source of nutrients and phytochemicals, so it doesn’t surprise me that avocado leaf tea has the potential to provide health benefits,” says Brittany Modell, MS, RD, and founder of Brittany Modell Nutrition and Wellness.

Here are some of the benefits of avocado leaves brewed as avocado leaf tea:

1. Antioxidants to eliminate free radicals

Avocados are known to be high in antioxidants, but avocado leaves have a higher concentration than the fruit. Avocado leaves have a compound called quercetin which removes free radicals from the body.

Antioxidants slow down or even prevent this process from happening, keeping our bodies healthier.

Apart from quercetin, avocado leaves also contain polyphenols which are another group of powerful antioxidants.

2. Treating kidney clothes

A cup of avocado tea contains alkaloids, flavonoids and saponins. All of these are potent substances thought to help break down kidney stones. Research shows that drinking 2 cups of avocado tea every day can reduce or even eliminate kidney stones. Most people see results within ten days.

3. Treating low blood pressure

The antioxidants in avocado leaves can also help relax blood vessels. While it won’t lower your LDL, or “bad cholesterol,” it can lower blood pressure. For best results, brew avocado tea three or more times per week.

4. Maintain digestive health

Avocado leaves contain flavonoids, saponins and tannins. These compounds play a role in balancing stomach acidity. Avocado tea can not only soothe your stress levels, it can also treat stomach ulcers.

5. Treating asthma symptoms

The phytochemical compounds in avocado leaves provide relaxation and calm in many parts of the body and mind. This can reduce headaches, muscle aches, and even asthma. Tea can reduce stiffness in the respiratory muscles, which can cause uncomfortable asthma symptoms.

As with most teas, you add the leaves and hot water together and let it steep. Tea lovers recommend using dried avocado leaves, roughly 3 or 4 leaves per pot. Heat the water then add the leaves until submerged. Others boil water with the leaves in it for 10 to 15 minutes.

It’s just that it must be remembered that research is still limited to examining its benefits for animals. Still need further research related to the benefits of avocado leaves for humans.
