Participating in the Flag Ceremony, Are There Any Benefits?
According to the law, the flag ceremony may only be carried out at state events, namely events that are centrally organized and carried out by the state committee, attended by the President and / or Vice President and state officials. Flag ceremonies are also carried out at official events, namely events that are organized and carried out by the government or state institutions in carrying out certain tasks and functions, attended by state officials and / or government officials.
If it can only be done at these two events, why is the flag ceremony also held every Monday morning in schools? That is because there is a Regulation of the Minister of National Education No.39 of 2008 concerning student development. In this regulation there are 10 materials for guidance and one of them is to form a superior personality, national insight and state defense.
It was also explained, one way to form a superior personality with national and national insights is through co-curricular activities (activities that are closely related and support educational programs in the curriculum) flag ceremonies on Monday and Saturday and on national holidays. Whether it is mandatory or not, maybe it depends on the local government whether it issues a regional regulation that mandates flag ceremonies for schools in its area.
There may be pros and cons regarding the importance of ceremonies as a means of shaping a superior personality and enhancing a sense of nationalism. Apart from that, there is an important essence of flag ceremony activities in schools: exercising student discipline and self-control. Like it or not, children must be ready to line up on the field, must wear uniforms with complete attributes, must practice if they are ceremonial officers, must not chat and move during the ceremony and show respect for national symbols.
