No need to climb, these are the many benefits of cultivating 'mini' coconut trees in Ciracap

JURNALSUKABUMI.COM – Coconut plantation entrepreneurs in Pasir Gancleng, Cikangkung Village, Ciracap District, Sukabumi Regency, chose to dive into cultivating ‘mini’ coconut trees, aka trees only 1 meter high.

As the name suggests, this type of coconut tree grows shorter than coconut trees in general, which can grow more than 10 meters.

Initiator of ‘Mini’ Coconut Tree Planting in Pasir, Rismayadi said that the development of this new variety is very beneficial in terms of safety, time effectiveness and productivity mobility.

“The most important thing is the safety factor. Because the tree is only 1 meter high. So there is no need to climb and hang, just pick, “said Rismayadi to jurnalsukabumi.com, Thursday (4/2/21).

Another advantage of the coconut tree as tall as a toddler, said the sugar entrepreneur, who has penetrated the European market, is that the distance between trees is very tightly spaced.

“The planting distance is only 0.5 meters. For coconut trees in general, the spacing can reach 2 to 3 meters. The planting age is different, tall coconut trees have an average age of 8 to 10 years. While coconut trees are short, they only produce about 3 to 4 years, ”he explained.

Rismayadi continued, during the short coconut tapping process, every worker could get the sap tapping much easier than having to climb towering coconut trees.

“In one day, each worker can climb at most 30 to 40 trees. It’s different if you take sap from a short coconut, it can reach hundreds of trees. For each tree, it can produce 1 liter per tree per day, “he continued.

To meet the demands of domestic and foreign producers, currently his party is optimizing natural resources and human resources to boost production.

“We manage 800 hectares of coconut plantation land located in three locations, namely Ciracap, Surade and Waluran. Some of this land area is privately owned and some are owned by the community and farmer groups, “he said.
