Homemade Covid-19 Drug Clinical Trial, Uganda Assures Safety and Benefits

Suara.com – The Ugandan government is conducting clinical trials of the Covid-19 drug. Not made abroad, Uganda said the drugs tested were self-made products, aka domestically made.

Reported by Anadolu Agency, Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta officially launched the first clinical trial for the Covid-19 drug at Mulago Hospital.

This domestically grown natural product is being innovated and developed by scientists in collaboration with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, Makerere University School of Public Health and Mulago Hospital,

Kaguta congratulated the scientists involved in the breakthrough against the coronavirus.

He also promised to prioritize the health sector during his next term.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng said the trial would also validate content standardization and replication, after which it would be launched for industrial production and wide use.

“The product has gone through quality assurance measures and obtained all necessary certificates and approvals for use in humans. The product has been approved by the National Drug Authority, Uganda National Bureau of Standards, and the National Science and Technology Council, ”explained Aceng.

So far, Uganda has reported 39,188 Covid-19 cases including 318 deaths.
