Benefits of Swimming for Babies
Babies who are often invited to play in the pool have better balance and ability to understand than those who are never invited to swim. His physical skills as an adult will also improve. That’s according to research conducted by a research team from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
This difference was seen even when the children were five years old. Professor Hermundur Sigmundsson and Professor Brian Hopkins compared 19 babies who were often invited to play in the pool with 19 babies who never played in the pool.
The group of babies who like to swim, regularly twice a week for two hours of swimming from 2-3 months to about 7 months. When they are five years old, they see their abilities in a special session, which is to float on water, dive, jump from the edge of a pool, and reach for floating objects.
The researchers found surprising results. “We clearly saw that the baby was the best swimmer in the exercises related to balance and the ability to achieve something,” said Professor Sigmundsson.
With only simple guidance from an instructor, a three month old baby is able to be in a balanced position in the water. “Instructors are able to make a three-month-old baby feel in a balanced position,” says Sigmundsson.
Babies who do certain exercises while swimming, according to Sigmundsson will also produce good results. “It is very interesting that the swimming training program for babies has an effect on their future. The development of the ability to maintain balance and combine with experience and learning.”
