In the study, participants were given two different tasks: reproducing ornamental plants and completing a short computer-based task.
After each task, researchers measured biological factors associated with stress, including heart rate and blood pressure.
They found that indoor gardening tasks decreased the stress response in participants.

In contrast, computer tasks led to spikes in heart rate and blood pressure, even though the study participants were young men accustomed to computer work. Researchers have concluded that working with plants can reduce physiological and psychological stress.

Unlike real plants, it turns out that plastic or fake plants do not have any impact when placed indoors.
This was found in a small study involving 23 participants, researchers placed students in a classroom with real and fake plants.
Brain scans of the participants showed that students who studied real-life plants in class were more able to focus and were better able to concentrate than students in other groups.
