However, the temptation to taste it every now and then is inevitable.

The only way to get around cravings without much guilt is to choose a good cooking oil for the diet.


Oil is a mixture of saturated and unsaturated fats. Some experts say that you should avoid fat to lose weight, but not all types of fat are bad for you.

The following are various types of cooking oil that can be used to maximize a weight loss diet.

1. Olive oil

Olive oil contains adequate amounts of unsaturated and saturated fats. This oil is considered excellent for cooking food, especially if it is for weight loss purposes.

As reported WebMD, olive oil also helps lower your blood pressure and fights inflammation. It lowers the risk of heart disease by improving the health of your blood vessels and preventing blood clots.

Extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) also contains antioxidants that can prevent cell damage.

2. Canola oil

Canola oil contains less amount of antioxidants than olive oil.

This oil contains sufficient amounts of monounsaturated fat and has a small amount of omega-3 fats, which are good for health. Canola oil is great for frying and sauteing.

3. Coconut oil

Although it contains saturated fat, coconut oil is also said to be good for weight loss.

This type of oil is extracted from the core of coconut so it contains medium-chain triglycerides, which are lauric acid to help with weight loss.

Coconut oil contains 6 percent monounsaturated fat and 87 percent saturated fat.

4. Avocado oil

Avocado oil is another great option for cooking meals when you are trying to lose weight. Avocado oil is also known to increase cholesterol levels because of the potassium and B vitamins in it.

This oil can be used for sauteing and cooking over high heat. When eating it with vegetables, it can increase the amount of antioxidants, prevent inflammation and relieve the symptoms of arthritis.

5. Almond oil

Almond oil is high in monounsaturated fat and vitamin E. Refined almond oil has a high smoke point, so it’s great for high heat cooking such as searing.

Raw almond oil has a nutty flavor and is best used as a salad dressing or drizzled over pasta.
