Study Reveals the Benefits of Routine Naps, Can Reduce Dementia

INDOZONE.ID – Based on a recent study, it was revealed that there is a positive impact on the brain that we can get if we can get enough naps regularly.

Yes, it’s not just kids, this also applies to adults. Adults need not only sleep at night, but also take naps.

The research study, published in General Psychiatry, says that people who take regular naps can have strong awareness, verbal skills and overall memory skills.

Researchers tried to study as many as 2214 healthy people with an age range of more than 60 years in Beijing, Shanghai and Xian. Then the research team found 1543 of them regularly take naps in their daily activities.

Meanwhile, 680 other people remained awake or did not take a nap. Note that these two groups slept an average of 6.5 hours at night.

Well, for groups of people who regularly nap for 5 minutes to 2 hours every day after lunch time.

Then the participants were divided, some people routinely take a nap every day, and some are only once a week.

Each participant in this study underwent a medical examination, for example the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE), to see if they had dementia.

Reported by Yahoo, it was found that people who took naps had higher MMSE scores, particularly on points of location awareness, verbal ability, and memory skills.

The research team believes that the process of reducing inflammation occurs when people take a nap in the middle of the day.
