People Are Asked Not to Doubt the Benefits of Covid-19 Vaccination

TABLOIDBINTANG.COM – The second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination program was carried out on Wednesday (27/1/2021). Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force Prof. Wiku Adisasmito emphasized that he, including President Jokowi, as the first vaccine recipient, has so far not experienced Post-Immunization Follow-up Events (KIPI).

“I, along with the president and several first vaccine recipients, have completed the vaccination process without any significant side effects until now,” Wiku gave a press statement on the progress of the handling of Covid-19 at the BNPB Building, Thursday (28/1/2021) which was also broadcast on the YouTube channel. Presidential Secretariat.

In its development as of January 26, 2021, the gradual vaccination program has been received by 193,909 health workers, including several representatives of the initial vaccine recipients. A number of community groups who receive the initial vaccine are those who are vulnerable to exposure to the Covid-19 virus, including medical personnel, office workers and people who have to do activities outside the home for economic reasons.

Wiku emphasized that the vaccine is beneficial for those who receive it. This is based on the results of a study by the Center for Communicable Disease from Harvard University which states that vaccination is beneficial in reducing susceptibility to infection, developing severe disease symptoms and preventing the chance of transmission to others.

Vaccination as a method of overcoming a pandemic is an effort that must be strengthened in order to achieve the main goal, namely herd immunity. Community immunity is a condition in which a large part of the population will become immune or immune from exposure to infectious diseases. And this condition indirectly or give herd effect to those who are not immune.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also states that community immunity is achieved through vaccination and not by allowing the disease to spread uncontrollably.

In achieving community immunity, several factors play a role. Namely the rate of disease transmission, the effectiveness of the vaccine, the speed in reaching the threshold for population coverage to be vaccinated and the length of immunity to last. “Particularly with regard to vaccination coverage, the threshold for people who have to be vaccinated to achieve community immunity is in the range of 60 – 70 percent of the total population in an area,” he said.
