The Claimed Benefits of Neem Leaves Could Be Coronavirus Antivirus

Two high school students from Gresik, East Java, won international awards through their research on the use of neem leaves as an antiviral drug corona cause Covid-19. Neem leaves themselves are known to have various benefits health.

This suddenly made neem leaves, which are usually used as animal feed, suddenly went viral. Many people are looking for neem leaves thanks to their second research.

Until now, it is not certain to what extent neem leaves are effective in treating Covid-19. The second research is still in the refining stage


Apart from the various narratives circulating in many mediums, neem leaves are basically known to be rich in health properties. Leaf extracts from plants are also referred to as neem tree it has long been used as a medium of Ayurvedic medicine.

The narrative about the benefits of neem leaves for curing Covid-19 was also widely discussed on social media a few months ago. However, until now there has been no scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of neem leaves to treat SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Mimpa leaves are often used for asthma, constipation, coughs, diabetes, stomach ulcers, indigestion, periodontal disease, and urinary tract infections.

Neem leaves are also claimed to fight inflammation, improve liver health, stimulate the immune system, and reduce the risk of heart disease.

To date, not many scientific studies have tested the effectiveness of neem leaves. But, at least some studies show certain benefits of neem leaves which are also claimed to be used as a corona antiviral drug, as follows Very Well Health.

1. Maintain healthy teeth

Neem leaves can help fight plaque buildup and prevent inflammation of the gums.

A 2017 study found that neem mouthwash was just as effective as common medical treatments like mouthwash with chlorhexidine gluconate.

Previous studies have also found that neem-based gels are more effective at reducing plaque buildup than mouthwash.

2. Overcoming dandruff

Dandruff is caused by dry skin, fungal infections, contact dermatitis, or other skin conditions.

Neem’s natural anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties are claimed to help treat the causes of dandruff.

A laboratory test found, terpenes, a compound found in neem, has been found to inhibit inflammatory responses. This is thought to increase the potential of neem leaves to treat dandruff which is caused by inflammation of the skin.

3. Overcoming acne

Topical use of neem leaf oil is claimed to help treat acne and other skin problems due to inflammation.

A laboratory test found that neem extract has antibacterial properties on the microbes that cause acne.

4. Overcoming indigestion

A study published in Phytotherapy Research in 2009 found that neem leaves can help treat stomach ulcers. Scientists concluded that neem extract supplements may help treat ulcers by inhibiting gastric acid secretion.

Neem supplements are generally safe for adults. However, this supplement is not recommended for children and pregnant and lactating women.

Since neem can increase activity in the immune system, it is especially important for people with autoimmune conditions to exercise caution. People taking immunosuppressant drugs should not take neem unless under a doctor’s supervision.

In addition, people with diabetes, kidney problems, and liver disorders are also advised to consult their doctor first about the use of neem leaf extract.
