There is BPJS, commercial insurance will reduce the benefits

JAKARTA. The obligation to implement the national health insurance program by the Social Security Administering Body (BPJS) for Health starting next year is expected to make group insurance customers or commercial health insurance product line corporate customers reduce their benefits. This is because there are additional costs for companies to pay BPJS Health contributions as social insurance.
This is believed by Angelia Agustine, Head of Group Policy Management and Claim Allianz Life Indonesia. According to him, companies that have insured the health of their employees will reduce the benefits offered by commercial insurance in exchange for joining BPJS Kesehatan.
“This is because the BPJS Kesehatan national health insurance program is mandatory. I think, in the first year of shock, the reaction of participating companies will be like that. Moreover, the basic health coverage offered by BPJS Kesehatan is unlimited. Unlike commercial insurance, which has limits,” he said, Monday (15/9).
However, it should be noted, Angelia emphasized that the procedure to obtain inpatient health services in the style of BPJS Kesehatan must first be through referrals from doctors and clinics at first-level health facilities. This is what distinguishes it from commercial insurance, which in fact can be served immediately without a referral.
That means, there is a chance that commercial insurance will also get a plus because the procedure is faster and simpler. So, it is not impossible, the participating companies will again increase the benefits that are usually offered by commercial insurance. “Although, currently, only 17 non-BPJS Kesehatan health facilities that serve coordination of benefits with commercial insurance,” he explained.
Allianz Life Indonesia itself, Angelia claims, is still recording positive business growth after the birth of the BPJS Kesehatan national health insurance program. The concern of the commercial health insurance business is decreasing and has not even happened, because many participating companies still rely on the benefits of commercial health insurance.
