KONTAN.CO.ID – Herbal plants still do not lose their prestige. Turmeric is one of them. The many benefits contained in this root rhizome make it much sought after by the public.

As information, turmeric is a medicinal plant that is commonly found in Southeast Asia, such as in Malaysia, Indonesia. Apart from being a medicine, turmeric is often used as a spice in cooking.

Muhammad Solihin, owner of Kudu Herbal from Semarang, Central Java, said that the demand for turmeric seeds is always high every year. Especially at the beginning of the year, then July to August and the beginning of the rainy season. “In the middle of the year the most people looking for are individuals, PKK groups, and health centers,” he said to KONTAN.

In addition, he received a number of orders from herbal medicine companies to supply turmeric seeds. Solihin explained that for large requests, he usually implements a pre-order system about two weeks to a month before goods are picked up.

Meanwhile, to fulfill his daily demands, he has dozens of turmeric seeds ready to sell. The breeding ground is in Kudu Village, Genuk, Semarang, Central Java.

Turmeric is a type of plant that is easy to breed. Maintenance is also easy. These two things make the price of turmeric seeds quite affordable. Solihin sets prices starting at Rp. 7,000 for plants with a height of 5 cm-10 cm and Rp. 35,000 for seeds measuring 45 cm-50 cm.

Not only serving consumers in Semarang, Solihin also sends many seeds to Demak, Magelang, Jakarta and other cities. Unlike the other cultivators, he packed the turmeric seeds inside poly bag.

If Solihin is still panning for the demand for turmeric seeds, Puriyani Hasanah, Marketing at Popon’s Nursery from Bogor, West Java, doesn’t even feel the rush of orders for turmeric seeds. Like last month, he only sent dozens of turmeric seeds.

Turmeric seeds are ordered only for wedding favors. “Our consumers are mostly in Bandung and there was a request from Yogya and Solo,” he said to KONTAN.

Popon’s Nursery sets the price of turmeric seeds at IDR 4,000 for 25 cm tall plants and IDR 6,000 for larger seeds. Unfortunately, he was reluctant to explain the number of sales each month.

Just so you know, Popon’s Nursery started breeding turmeric in 2014. However, the original idea was driven by the herbal plant souvenir business which was booming at the time.
