1. Acne

According to a 2016 review, the EGCG in green tea has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. They have shown improvement in treating acne and oily skin.

2. Oily skin

Acne is the result of pores clogging excess sebum and stimulating bacterial growth. Sebum is an oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands to moisturize the skin and hair. Then androgens are hormones produced by the body.

If you have high levels of androgens, this can cause your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.

EGCG is anti-androgenic and lowers lipid levels. This makes it effective for reducing sebum excretion in the skin. By reducing sebum, EGCG can slow or stop acne progression.

3. Skin Cancer

According to a 2003 study, the polyphenols in green tea can be used as pharmacological agents for the prevention of skin disorders caused by UVB rays of the sun in animals and humans. These include melanoma skin cancer, nonmelanoma skin cancer, and photoaging.

4. Green Tea Extract for Skin

A 2012 review of 20 studies shows that green tea extract has been shown to be potentially effective when applied to the skin and taken as a supplement. Its benefits function for acne, androgenetic alopecia, atopic dermatitis, candidiasis, genital warts, keloids, rosacea.

5. Aging

Drinking green tea and rubbing it on your skin can help you deal with the aging process better. A small 2005 study of 80 women demonstrated improved skin elasticity in participants treated with a combination of topical and oral green tea.

In addition, other studies have shown that sun damage is reduced with the application of topical cosmetics containing green tea extract.

Researchers suggest cosmetic formulations including green tea extract have improved skin microrelief and have a moisturizing effect.

6. Skin around the eyes

If you have swelling around the eyes, home remedies with green tea can relieve this problem. The trick is to steep / soak two green tea bags for a cup of tea then squeeze them out to remove excess fluid.

Afterward, chill the tea bag in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes. Finally, place the two tea bags over your closed eyes for about 30 minutes.

Some say that a combination of caffeine and a cold compress will help reduce swelling.

Additionally, according to a 2010 article in the Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science, the caffeine in green tea can constrict blood vessels to reduce swelling and inflammation.

However, clinical research does not support this method. Instead of using green tea bags to reduce eye puffiness, experts recommend using a cold compress (washcloth and cold water).

Even so, if you really want to try this treatment, it must be remembered that around the eyes is a sensitive area. So it is advisable to remove makeup, remove contact lenses, wash hands and face, and keep fluids from getting into the eyes.

As with any home remedy, it is best to talk to a doctor before trying it.

Also, discontinue use if experiencing pain or irritation. []
