These are the benefits and functions of the Covid-19 vaccine

KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. The government will implement the Covid-19 vaccination program in early 2021. This vaccine is expected to provide immunity in the body so that people are not exposed to the Covid-19 virus and can increase the confidence of middle and upper class consumers.

Health expert Hasbullah Thabrany explained that the Covid-19 vaccine is not a type of drug that has a formula. Vaccines are parts of the virus that are weakened or unable to spread the disease which are then injected into the body.

“The benefit of the Covid-19 vaccine is as a trainer for our bodies to be able to recognize this dangerous virus,” said Hasbullah when contacted by Kontan.co.id, Sunday (27/12).

So that the Covid-19 vaccine works to be able to kill the virus that enters the body. But Hasbullah also said that the Covid-19 vaccine did not prevent the virus from entering the body.

“If the virus has entered the body, then this vaccine can kill. So it’s not to prevent the virus from entering. This means that even though there is 3M vaccine (washing hands, wearing masks, and keeping a distance) it still has to be done, “he said.

Hasbullah also said the effectiveness rate of the Covid-19 vaccine was around 90%. Thus there is still a possibility that 10% of the body that has been vaccinated will still be exposed to the Covid-19 virus. That’s why double protection is needed while still implementing 3M health protocols.

For this reason, he suggested that the government should not rely too much on the Sinovac vaccine, which until now has not been tested for its effectiveness.

According to him, the Indonesian government can buy a vaccine like the one developed by a US company, namely the Moderna vaccine, which is claimed to be almost 95% effective in protecting against Covid-19.

“I personally hope the government can take a policy to provide opportunities for these vaccines to be sold in Indonesia. Because until now there has not been any report on the sinovac vaccination, even though it has been eagerly awaited, “he concluded.
