Tolerance comes from the Latin ‘tolerare’ which means patient. Meanwhile, according to the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), tolerance means being tolerant towards other people who have different opinions.

According to Michael Walzer, tolerance is a condition that must exist in an individual or society to fulfill its goals. The goal is to live in peace in the midst of existing differences, both differences in history, identity, and culture.
