Benefits & Impact for Children's Height

Jakarta

It should be noted that exclusive breastfeeding as a single baby food is only sufficient until the baby is 6 months old. This is because the breast milk content is reduced by one third at the age of 6 months, even at the age of 12 months the adequacy of breast milk is only 50%.

Therefore, from the age of 6 months, babies need to be given complementary foods (complementary foods) so that babies can grow and develop optimally. Breast milk must be given in sufficient quantities and of good quality, namely containing carbohydrates, protein and fat as well as vitamins and minerals.

How to eat protein?

Adequate nutrition in the first 1 year is important not only for child development, but also for preventing disease in adulthood. Several micronutrients, namely vitamins and minerals needed for this purpose, include vitamin A and minerals such as zinc, iodine, and iron.

So that children can grow and develop optimally, sufficient protein intake is needed. Protein has an important role in all metabolic processes in the body. Proteins consist or are formed from various amino acids. Several amino acid combinations come from different protein sources and have different functions.

Several amino acids are essential and should be in the diet of children. In addition to the above purposes, several amino acids such as arginine and lysine play a role in the release of growth hormone. Therefore, a deficiency of these amino acids puts children at risk of experiencing stunted (short stature). Unfortunately only proteins of animal origin such as meat, chicken and fish contain all the essential amino acids needed by children.

Does the child consume animal protein such as red meat will cause obesity?

In principle, children will be obese if for a long time their daily calorie intake is greater than the number of calories expended. Red meat that contains fat can indeed have higher calories. If children eat the recommended amount of red meat, they will not be obese.

As we know the composition of our healthy diet consists of 50% carbohydrates, 30% fat, and 20% protein which is commonly known as balanced nutrition. As long as the child consumes protein in the form of red meat not more than 20% and the total number of calories a day does not exceed the recommended amount, the child will have a normal weight.

Red meat calorie content will be higher when accompanied by fat. In addition, it should be noted that in children’s food, animal protein should not only be consumed, but alternatively between red meat (beef or goat) and white meat (chicken and fish).
