Singing in a group doesn’t just help you deal with physical pain; it can also help with the emotional pain you feel after losing someone you love.

In a 2019 study conducted among people experiencing grief, researchers found for those who sing in a choir, depression symptoms did not get worse over time and their sense of well-being remained stable.

In fact, the choir singers felt a gradual increase in their self-esteem during and after the 12 week study. Those in the control group who did not participate in the singing intervention did not report this benefit.

Researchers concluded that singing along could be a good option for people who need additional support during times of grief.
